England is a country in northern Europe. It is part of the United Kingdom.

The English national football team, also known as the Three Lions, played its first international match back in 1872 (draw 0-0 with Scotland). England is considered as “home of football” and is certainly the oldest football nation in the world. Despite that, success is controversial. Team’s best result at the European football scene is the third place from EURO 1968 in Italy. In front of home crowd England reached the semi-finals once again in 1996. However, the team won the FIFA World Cup in 1966, which is their biggest achievement so far. Prior to EURO 2012, all-time top goalscorer is Bobby Charlton with 49 goals.
