Russia (also known as Russian Federation) is a country in northern Eurasia. Despite being placed mostly across Asia, it is also the biggest country in Europe covering 40% of the continent.

The Russian national football team (“Sbornaya”, which means “The team”) has two debuts at the international football scene – once as the then called Russian Empire in 1912, and later as Russia in 1992. As Soviet Union the team have many achievements and medals, including the gold in EURO 1960, and silver in 1964, 1972, 1988. As today’s Russia the team has recently reached 3rd place at EURO 2008. Before EURO 2012, all-time top goalscorer is Vladimir Beschastnykh with 26 goals.
