There has been a growing popularity of reality TV stars in recent years because of the proliferation of television programs like American Idol, Jersey Shore, Survivor, Amazing Race, and other so-called unscripted television shows. In fact, some reality television personalities have become more popular than celebrities themselves and some celebrities who want to resurrect their failing showbiz careers tend to star in reality TV shows like Dancing with the Stars to gain more popular support.

Reality TV stars may become famous for different reasons, either you win a reality TV game show, become the most popular singer, or the favorite personality that everyone love to hate. Here are the top eight reasons why you should be on reality television:

1. Five minutes of fame
Andy Warhol once said that everybody has five minutes of fame that is why reality TV contestants want to keep cameras on them all the time. Everybody loves to be on television because it’s just like winning the lottery. Imagine what life could Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino be in if it weren’t for the reality TV show that catapulted him to fame and fortune? Will Adam Lambert or Susan Boyle be known worldwide if they haven’t tried their chances on American Idol or Britain’s Got Talent?

2. Become a celebrity
Of course everybody wants to get famous in their own right. You can be the most popular housemate in Big Brother but that is not necessarily the case for some people. If you can’t be the most popular and lovable character in reality television then you can always be the most hated villain in television much like Russell Hantz and Jonny Fairplay did in Survivor. Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie epitomize what celebutantes are. They are personalities who become famous not because of their talent or skill, they simply became famous because of their ‘star power.’

3. Fortune
When you get famous, you can always get rich from it especially when you win the top prize of The Amazing Race. Overcoming your fears at Fear Factor can also help gain monetary prizes. Popular contestants from American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and America’s Next Top Model can successfully launch their career in the music, entertainment, and modeling business because of their exposure in reality television.

4. Product endorsements
Popular reality stars can endorse various products from fast food to automobiles, shampoos to softdrinks, and shoes to electronic products.

5. Get paid to party
Becoming a popular fixture in reality television allows you to go to parties and bars and get paid by just showing up. Isn’t that exciting? You can even go into parties where you can rub elbows with Leonardo di Caprio, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, or Angelina Jolie.

6. Television job
Once your reality TV show is over, you will always get a chance to host your own television show or become a local TV news reporter.

7. Become a social media star
Reality television personalities spill their popularity on the social media by gaining millions of followers on Twitter wherein people can follow every mundane bit of their lives. Some even posted their videos on Facebook and Youtube that gain millions of hits.

8. Get a big break in Hollywood
Let’s face it, Hollywood is where the big money is. If one has to transcend from reality television to box office movies then getting a good start in this genre allows you to begin your career path to Hollywood.

  1. Great post this, Mr. Sakuragi. In fact, the benefits are very succinctly put. In an extension of the same, if it interests you, we recently did a piece on how reality TV and their contestants along with the producers can benefit out of employing social media.

    The link for the piece:

I would really appreciate it if you could share an opinion or two on the same. After all, who better to ask if not the ones who know this turf like the back of their hand.
