Is he the next big thing? (c) Philstar
Editor's Note: I have been fascinated with genealogy and family when I was in university and it never ceased to amaze me about finding your roots. This is the reason why I took History and started tracing my family tree. This time around after watching episodes of Finding Your Roots by Henry Louis Gates and Who Do You Think You Are. I have decided to research on the family tree of famous celebrities and historical figures in the Philippines.

Kobe Lorenzo Paras is the next big thing in Philippine basketball with his highlight reel dunks and movie star good looks. Barely 20 years old, Kobe has already accomplished a lot at this young age by representing the country in youth and hopefully, in the senior level of international basketball. He has taken his talent from 3x3 basketball to Gilas Pilipinas and soon, he will embark on a new journey to jumpstart his US collegiate career in the hope of building up his chances on the road to become the first homegrown Filipino talent to be drafted and perhaps, play in the National Basketball Association in a few years’ time.

Some people don’t know that he descended upon an even illustrious name who also took the Philippine Basketball Association by storm some 20 odd years ago. His father, Benjie Paras became the only player to win both the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player in his first season! Although a public figure and celebrity in their own right, there are limited public information about them when it comes to their genealogy so I made a 3-4 generation family tree based on news articles and public online posts.

His mother is Jacklynne “Jackie” Forster, a former movie actress, was the biological granddaughter of ex-NFL tight end Andrew Breedlove. She is also a half-sister of Michelle Forster (screen name: Mickey Ferriols).

Kobe have half-brothers Riley Paras and Sam Paras from his father’s second marriage to Lyxen Diomampo. His mother remarried Michael Franken and has half-siblings: Jared, Caleigh and Yohan.
